Welcome... Our InnerSelf welcomes your inner self.
As we enter into the new year, you may be starting the year with new resolve... to be healthier, to be happier, to be more organized, to be more loving, more forgiving, more successful, etc. etc. However, in order to progress into a new reality, we may have to let go of certain attachments or beliefs that have been dear to us. This week, our authors assist us in cleaning our slate so that we can start anew.
Alan Cohen reminds us that there is "Nothing New Under the New Year... Unless You Make It So" while Rabbi Daniel Cohen encourages us to "Bring Back the True Meaning of the Holidays and the New Year". Of course, to stay on a new path requires making new choices and letting go of old ones. I share some tips in "What Works For Me: Acknowledging My Choices" and Pierre Pradervand also emphasizes the importance of choosing to let go of resentments in "The Very Best New Year’s Start". Barbara Berger shines light on "The Power of Releasing and Letting Go". And also emphasizing the importance of releasing old attitudes, D. Patrick Miller shares "You Can Release Guilt and Cynicism and Lighten Up Your World".
The new year can be like turning the page or starting a new chapter in a book. But it also gives us the opportunity (which we have every day really) to start a brand new book. With so many people focusing on change and a new start, the surrounding energy is supportive of change. I encourage you to reflect on what you would like your new year to be like, what you need to keep and what you need to let go of, and then start making the choices that will bring you to that reality.
And of course, we have numerous additional articles, some also focusing on the New Year, and others looking at a wider range of topics such as positive climate change stories, skiing, aging, social media, health, and much more. Scroll down below for the links to all of this week's new articles.
Wishing you enjoyable insightful reading, and of course a wonder-full, joy-full, healthy, and loving New Year.

The Power of Releasing and Letting Go
Written by Barbara Berger
We're all carrying around such incredibly heavy loads of excess baggage, stuff we don't need, stuff that's weighing us down and preventing our Good from manifesting. One of the best ways to feel better is to release. When you release, you become lighter. Releasing is a good way to raise your energy.

You Can Release Guilt and Cynicism and Lighten Up Your World
Written by D. Patrick Miller
Cynicism seems to have a lot going for it in the modern world. I know that I didn’t give up cynicism until it utterly failed me as a means of self-protection. As I began to understand the psychological roots of my physical collapse, it became clear that my cynical, stressful attitudes toward life had delivered me into this catastrophic condition.

What Works For Me: Acknowledging My Choices
Written by Marie T. Russell, InnerSelf
There are many things in life that can make our existence easier or more difficult. A huge factor is our attitude. One attitude that has served me well is recognizing that everything I do is by choice... Even if appearances may seem like I don't always have a choice, I really do.
