Ho’okena Beach Park. Hwy. 11 Between mile markers 101 & 102 to road & W. to Kauhako Bay, Ho’okena. Campsites overlooking beach, restrooms, showers, swimming, snorkeling.
Isaac Hale Beach Park. Hwys. 132 & 137, 30 miles S. of Hilo, along Pohoiki Bay, undeveloped campsites along a beach; swimming, snorkeling, boat ramp, portable toilets.
Kapaa Beach Park. 1 1/4 miles N. of Mahukona Beach Park, off Hwy. 270. Undeveloped campsites. swimming, fishing, picnic tables, restrooms.
Kealoha Beach Park. Hwy. 19 to road at mile marker 14. 11 miles N. of Hilo; swimming, pavilions, picnic tables, restrooms, showers.
Keokea Beach Park. N.E. a road that goes off highway 270, 4 1/2 miles E. of the town of Kapa’au. Campsites, overlooking a rocky shoreline, along Keokea Bay. Picnic tables, restrooms, showers.
Laupahoehoe Point Beach Park. Hwy. 19 to road marked Laupahoehoe Point, 24 miles N. of Hilo at mile marker 27. Campsites overlooking the ocean, picnic tables, restrooms, showers.
Mahukona Beach Park. Road that goes off highway 270, a mile N. of Lapakahi State Park. Campsites near rocky beach, snorkeling, picnic tables, showers, restrooms.
Onekahakaha Beach Park.
Off Kalani’anaole Ave to Onekahakaha Rd., Hilo. Picnic tables, pavilions, showers, restrooms.
Punalu’u Beach Park. Hwy. 11 to Punalu’u Rd., just past mile marker 54. Punalu’u, E. of Na’alehu. Campsites, swimming, snorkeling, picnic tables, showers, restrooms.
Spencer Beach Park. Hwy. 270 near Mauna Kea Resort area, N.W. of Hwys. 19 & 270. Swimming, snorkeling, basketball, volleyball courts, picnic tables, grills, showers, restrooms.
Whitting Beach Park. Hwy. 11 to access road past mile marker 62, Na’alehu. Grassy campsites in lava. Picnic area, showers, restrooms.

State Parks

Hapuna Beach Rec. Area. Hwy. 19 — 1 1/4 miles N. of Puako and 2.3 miles S. of Kawaikae. 61.6 acres. Swimming, snorkeling, lifeguard, body surfing, beach, picnic tables, snack bar, showers, restrooms.
Kalopa State Park. Hwy.19 — 37 miles N. of Hilo then N. to Kalopa Rd. at mile marker 39 to Kalanai Rd. (5 miles S.E. of Honoka'a). Campsites at elevation 2,000 feet in rain forest. 100 acres. Native plants. Hiking, nature trails, picnic areas, showers, restrooms.
Mackenzie State Rec. Area. Hwy. 137 — 2 miles S.W. of Isaac Hale Beach Park. 13 acres, undeveloped campsites, fishing, picnic tables, pavilion, restrooms, no drinking water.
Manuka State Wayside Pk. Hwy. 11, at mile marker 81, 40 miles S. of Kailua-Kona. Campsites. Native & introduced trees. Arboretum, trail through the gardens, covered picnic tables, restrooms, phone. No drinking water.

Federal Parks

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Permits required, 7-day limit, no fee. Volcano House, P.O. Box 53, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, HI 96785; 808-967-7321. Walk-in trail cabins, shelters available.
Namakani Paio Campground. Hwy. 11, at mile marker 32 , W. of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Grassy campground, picnic tables, showers, restrooms.
