Kauai's climate ranges from the lush tropical settings of the North shore to the dry arid beaches of the south. The government of Hawaii provides sheltered picnic tables at some of the camping sites. And for the adventurous the Napali trail also has camping options.
Camping in Kauai County Parks
PERMITS for Kauai County Parks:
Required. Permits are provided by the County of Kauai Division of Park & Recreation, 4193 Hardy Rd., Lihue, HI 96766; 808-241 6670.
Anahola Beach Park:
Kuhio Hwy N. of Kapa’a road to right at mile marker 13. Campsites on beach, showers, restrooms.
Anini Beach Park:
Kukuihale Rd. 5 miles N. of Kapaa. Campsites on beach, swimming, pavilions, picnicking, restrooms, water, swimming, showers, grills. Boat loading area.
Haena Beach Park. Kuhio Hwy, 6 1/2 miles W. of Hanalei, camping on beach, pavilions, grills, showers, restrooms.
Hanamaulu Beach Park. Kuhio Hwy then E. on Hanama’ulu Rd to Hanama’ulu Bay, N. of Lihue then E. again on Hehi Rd. Campsites, beach pavilions, picnic tables, grills, showers, restrooms, swimming.
Lucy Wright Park. Kaumuali’i Hwy on W. bank of Waimea River, Waimea. Campsites near beach. Restrooms.
Niumalu Beach Park. Lihue at Wapa’a & Hulemalu Roads. Grassy camping area, pavilions, picnic tables, grills, showers, restrooms.
Salt Pond Beach Park. Kaumanali’i Hwy & Lele Rd. S.W. of Hanapepe, grassy campsites on beach. Picnic tables, showers, restrooms, swimming.
Camping in Kauai State Parks
PERMITS for Kauai State Parks:
Required. Permits issued by the Department of Land & Natural Resources, State Office Building, P.O. Box 1671, Lihue, HI 96766. (3060 Eiwa St., Rm. 306, Lihue; 808-274-3444.)
Hanakapiai Valley:
Along Kalalau Trail. Beach, waterfalls, pools ideal for swimming.
Miloli’i Valley:
Remote valley on the Na Pali Coast accessible by small boat. Wilderness campsites. Maximum stay of 3 nights.
Hanakoa Valley. 4 miles W. of the Hanakapiai Valley, along Kalalau Trail. Beautiful campsites.
Kalalau Valley. End of the Kalalau Trail. Campsites at the Kalalau Beach & in the valley. Nearby waterfalls, caves, 5-night limit, wilderness.
Kokee State Park. Kaumuali’i Hwy. to Waimea Canyon Rd to Kokee Rd. (15 miles N. of Kekaha). 3600 ft. Wildland picnicking, hiking, native plants, trout fishing. Beautiful "endless" beach. Great for walking.
Kakalohuluhulu Meadow. Grills, restrooms.
Sugi Grove. Mohihi Rd., undeveloped campsites, picnic tables, portable toilets
Camp 10. Wilderness campsites, picnic tables, restrooms, picnicking, grills, water, showers.
Polihale State Park.Kaumuali’i Hwy. (50), N.W. from Kekaha, to cane road. Campsites are among sand dunes on the beach: picnic tables, showers, restroom facilities. Beautiful, long sandy beach. Swimming in summer. Fishing.
